CAPABILITIES

All 14 of our furnaces are electrically fired for cleanliness, ease of control and uniformity. Each is controlled by two digital, microprocessor-based controllers capable of producing the exact heat treat cycle your parts need. NIST-traceable thermocouples are employed for the most accurate temperature sensing possible (temperatures up to 2250° F are available). Nearly all of our furnaces are certified for the exacting requirements of Mil-Spec and AMS-Spec processing.

And with a wide variety of furnace sizes, there are few jobs which are too big to handle. Our maximum vertical capacity is over 80 inches, and can be extended upon special request for some processes. Single piece weights up to 1500 pounds can be handled. On the other end of the scale, with furnaces as small as 10 inches diameter by 14 inches high (certified heat zone) we can heat treat even the smallest job in the most economical way.

Atmosphere available include high purity hydrogen and nitrogen, H2/N2 blend, argon, helium, anhydrous ammonia (for nitriding), propane (for carburizing), steam, wet H2 and air. Other atmospheres are available upon request.

All retorts used to contain your parts during heat treating are checked daily to ensure atmospheres integrity. And by the way, we fabricate and repair all fixturing and retorts in our own weld shop, which means a minimum of down time awaiting repairs or the fabrication of custom fixtures for your particular parts.

Distortion-critical heat treating is a specialty at Owego. We have years of experience in minimizing naturally occurring distortion through the use of special set-up techniques, fixtures and even a patented oil quench process. Many customers have brought us their nightmare jobs and now sleep easy, knowing their parts are in the hands of our straightening experts.

We are also fully equipped to provide the cold stabilization required by many materials and processes. Temperatures down to -120° F are employed on a daily basis, and cryogenic (liquid nitrogen) treatments to -300°F are available for your special applications.
